What Shall We Say Then?

For the several weeks, since Romans 3:20, we’ve been looking at what the Scriptures have to say concerning JUSTIFICATION. In the last few articles especially, we looked specifically at IMPUTATION. Over the next few articles we will begin examining and seeking to understand from the Scriptures several other terms: IDENTIFICATION, REGENERATION, &etc. As we move along in the text, we will pause to ensure we have an understanding of these things. Imputation in Justification

From the Scripture portion above, we have before us a passage that serves as a passageway; for in this passageway there are two discoveries: (1) THE BASIS for Justification; and (2) THE BEGINNING of Sanctification. And as we move from an understanding of our salvation by justification, we will not truly grasp sanctification in the chapters that follow unless the Holy Spirit has blessed us with the revelation of IMPUTATION. All We Will Become Flourishes by the Atonement

Justification by faith FLOURISHES BY THE CROSS of Jesus Christ. All that we will become matures by God’s grace because it comes by the truth of the Cross. Therefore being justified by faith… Romans 5:3-5, ESV, “we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Continue reading

All We Are is Focused on the Atonement

…to “love God” without the truth of the Cross is deceptive ignorance; to “know” God without desiring God or His will is the faith of devils; and to profess Christ without drawing nearer the Cross of Christ is the sin of blasphemy, causing the professor to utter the name of the Lord in vain. Strong in Faith

“And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;” —Romans 4:19-20

The points made in this lesson and the next will be very helpful when we examine the blessings of justification by grace through faith in Romans 5. Continue reading

Faith Alone – Part Two

“Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before Him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.” —Romans 4:16-17 Continue reading

Faith Alone – Part One

After what was addressed in Romans 4:1-8, that the sinner is justified by grace through faith, and with Israel’s forefathers given as an example (Abraham and David), the Jew may quite naturally agree that Christ’s righteousness is imputed; that is, that righteousness is accounted to him by God’s grace through faith.
