A Thing of Power

“The gospel is to the true believer a thing of power. It is Christ the power of God. Ay, there is power in God’s gospel beyond all description…. Is there power, sir? Ay, there is power, and he who has felt it must acknowledge it…. I have felt it here, in this heart; I have the witness of the Spirit within, and know that it is a thing of might, because it has conquered me; it has bowed me down.”

—Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)

A powerful quote to complent your devotional, brother Jon.

Truly it is nothing but the power of God when a man or woman is born again of the Spirit, when blind eyes are opened to see, when hearts of stone are turned to flesh, when hatred and contempt are replaced with love and forgiveness, and when sinful, ungodly desires are replaced with godly, holy ones – all of this without force, or coercion! Truly, there is no power on earth or in heaven that can compare to the power of God unto salvation!

And, let us be reminded that the power of the Gospel is not just a one time event! It is the very lifeblood for our continued walk in holiness and sanctification. If anything, I feel like I lean more on the Gospel each day that I am a Christian! Can you imagine the despair if we had no assurance that our acceptance by God is because of Jesus? I cringe to think!

I thank you very much for this quote brother Jon and your devotional, too. I pray you have a blessed day in the Lord.
