Rick Warren and Allah

When my family and I returned from the Philippine mission field in the Spring of 1995, we attended a little Baptist church in California that introduced us to a tape series from a fella not many miles from where we lived– Rick Warren. When his book, THE PURPOSE DRIVEN CHURCH® came out in November 1995, I read it, and although I couldn’t exactly put my finger on what was wrong with it, I knew something didn’t quite sound right. We left that church for that Purpose Driven reason. Since, the Lord has blessed me, by His grace, with the ability to articulate Purpose Driven falsehoods a bit.

On April 6, 2010, when John Piper invited Rick Warren to take part in the Desiring God Conference, after a number of inquiries directed to me about it, I finally wrote a series of 4 articles giving my “two cents” on the matter. At the end of the first article I mentioned that Mr. Warren’s theology and mine are “fundamentally and foundationally incompatible.”

Pastor and evangelist, John Chisham, hits the nail on the head when exposing Rick Warren’s compromises at his blog, “Wittenburg Church Door.” Thanks, John.

There you have it. If reblogging Pastor Chisham’s article means I’ll be forever banned from the “Can’t We All Get Along” club, then so be it. Chrisolic and Chrislam compromise has no place in or with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.

Thank you for posting this. Warren’s theology is dangerous and needs to be exposed. I tried to read his book when it first came out and by chapter three I threw it away. It’s sad that he’s got so many fooled. If more people really read the Bible and sought God’s grace to understand it maybe they wouldn’t be fooled by him and others of his ilk. May God bless your efforts to glorify Him. ~ Anna

    • Yes, sister. Dangerous indeed. The more subtle, the more devilish and most like Satan.

    • Anna, For some reason, only God knows why, when I clicked facebook this morning, I came out to something with your name on it. I thought you must have made a comment on my fb page or something. When I saw that you were a blogger I decided to look you up. I think now, God caused this to happen to me this morning. What I read was “glory to God” and that is what is on my timeline. I am taking it that God wanted me to come to your blog.
I want to say, I love your blog, I love your love for Christ, and I would love to put some of your blogs on my facebook page if that is alright with you. I’m guessing it is, since you have the twitter and facebook buttons. I am not a journalist, or writer, so I have been selecting articles, videos etc., from Christian sites to put on my page and make them public. I want my fb page to honor God just as you also want to honor Him. I want the gospel message to be prominent, and also our Triune God. .

I too am aware of the new emergent evangelicals, open theists, and the evangelicals and catholics together document that would have catholics, united church, and others all united together in the name of unity… This started last summer with The Meetinghouse in Canada. I can see Bruxy Cavey is on a slippery slope as he is inviting people from these groups to speak (particularly in the summer months) at services. I have family and friends who belong to the Meetinghouse still. I am praying he will wake up and see where this is leading to. Unity is for those who believe in the same Gospel, not different ways, or all ways lead to the mountain top.

I believe we are at a time in history where all those who are sitting on the fence are going to have to decide which side they want to be committed to. Jesus doesn’t want lukewarmness. I pray we will see more Christians step out and be the kind of witness we were intended to be, not in words only, but by our love, and our lives as well.

May God bless and prosper your blogs for Christ,

      in Christ’s love,
      Annie Law

Jon, it is good that all of this is finally coming to light. I Cor 11:19 ” For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you.” For those who were not taken in from the start by this charlatan this is just one more piece of evidence in a long chain that RW is not a believer and does not deserve, nor has the right to called “a brother in Christ”. For those who were as yet ‘undecided’ about RW this should be all the proof you should need to come to the correct conclusion, that being that RW is not your brother. For those who would yet defend RW, claim him as your ‘brother’ and hurl insults at those of us who know better, may I humbly suggest that you “examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith.” The faith of the Lord Jesus Christ, not some mixture of a false christ and a dead false god such as allah.

    Darrel

    • You’re absolutely right about that, Darrel. We didn’t stay much longer at that little Baptist church once RW was introduced. It pained us to do so, but we left early Spring of 1996. A few others left in the may-lay because I agitated the situation with my questions (it was too early to call us resistors then). I praise God that, by His grace and in His mercy, He spared us from having to go through much of what others have had to go through for years.

Thanks for your sharing your thoughts.

  4. I received correspondence through my JBG Contact Submission from Johnny Montgomery, on staff at Saddleback Church. I’ll actually be posting this, with a few comments in an article in just a few moments. At any rate, here is that correspondence, completely unedited:

    Name: Johnny Montgomery
    Email: johnnym@saddleback.com
Comment: To whom it may concern:

Hello. My name is Johnny Montgomery. I work for Pastor Rick Warren at Saddleback Church. It has come to our attention that you have posted the article, “Rick Warren and Allah,” in response to Pastor Rick’s involvement with the Muslim community and the recent article reported in Orange County Register.

As you may know, Pastor Rick has strongly opposed the idea that he is attempting to merge Christianity and Islam. An interview with the Christian Post was recently posted in which Pastor Rick answered many questions on the same topic. We ask that you, at the very least, post the interview in full on your website. The link for the interview, as posted on Saddleback’s website, is http://saddleback.com/blogs/newsandviews/news–views-030212/.

Saddleback Church grants you full permission to post the interview in full. We hope and pray that you would allow Pastor Rick and Saddleback Church to depend our integrity.

    God Bless.
